Earth Day - Taking Care

This month, we're featuring projects that contribute positively to saving the environment.

The first time I babysat for someone who used cloth diapers, I thought 'oh GROSS!'   But the new cloth diapers turned out to be very easy to use.   And when you think about what happens to the environment when disposables are put in a landfill, well that is maybe even more gross!    So among our projects, we are offering a 'soaker' cover to be used over cloth diapers.

We have a lovely little preemie and newborn hat to crochet from Lion Organic Cotton.

Our Knifty Knitter project makes recycling plastic bags simple.

Quick Tip

Easy Beaded Bookmark

We made this beaded bookmark so we'd have a way to keep our place without damaging the book.  It would make a fantastic (and inexpensive!) project for a class or club and it is a great idea if you need to make gifts for a lot of people.

Baby Abby's Ruffled Bloomers

This simple, 100% wool soaker-style ruffled diaper cover can be used over cloth diapers or simply to make disposable ones look prettier.

If the baby is a boy, just omit the Ruffles yarn and use the optional leg cuff pattern for a more manly look!

Crochet Baby Beanie

We made this darling little hat from soft, all-natural Lion Organic Cotton to welcome a preemie or newborn. Because the cotton is grown without pesticides or herbicides, you can be sure it is as safe for the Earth as it is for the tiniest of babies!

Lion Wool Felted Bag Recycler
We love felting!  We used our Knifty Knitter to make this felted holder to hang in the kitchen so plastic bags can easily be collected and reused.  Just think -- if every bag were used twice, we'd only need half as many of them!
