Back-to-School School means lunch with friends! But, by lunchtime at school, it is just WAY too easy to buy and eat more pizza than is really a good idea. Our western version of a traditional Japanese 'bento' lunch is a great alternative to high-fat, high-calorie (and high-cost) purchased lunches. It is easy to make, beautiful to behold and easy on the environment because everything in it is reusable. School means papers and computers! To protect our laptop, we made a simple felted laptop sleeve in our school colors. School means books! We made little bookmarks using the colors of the 'house' scarves from a well-known school of wizardry. They are quick to make and would be a great gift now or for the holidays. School means new beginnings and new teachers! One of our very young friends wanted to make a gift for his kindergarten teacher so that "she'd feel welcome too." Using a spool-knitter, we helped him make a cheerful little coaster in the shape of an apple to bring as a gift to his teacher. -- Elizabeth -- P.S. Did you like this issue?
