Each month, The Weekly Stitch features a charity organization using knitting & crochet to help those in need. However, in light of the current situation in Haiti, we want to turn our attention to this part of the world and how you can help out. We have received many inquiries about donating knitted or crocheted items to Haiti, but the most immediate concerns are basic needs, such as food, shelter, and health care.

Therefore, in lieu of sending handmade items, we encourage you to make monetary donations to established charity and relief organizations already on-site in Haiti to help address these needs. Click here to see a list of a few of these organizations.

My 6 year-old daughter Madeleine asked me to teach her to knit. I was sure she was too young and wouldn't have the motor skills to knit yet, but I taught her anyway, as I didn't have the heart to tell her she couldn't do it. Well, was I wrong! She picked it up immediately and has already made a doll blanket and a beautiful red scarf for her teacher! Her knitting is beautiful and very even. So, go ahead and teach a young child to knit! We now knit together in the evenings, and it is a precious memory I will always treasure!
