A new twist on knitting for charity

As the executive director of TKGA for nine years until November 2013, I have come to love the fiber industry and count Jack Blumenthal as one of my favorite yarn biz acquaintances! Now that I've moved on to be the Executive Director of Mental Health America of Licking County in my Ohio community, I continue to use yarn for the good of that community. We will host an annual fund raiser, including an auction, on March 8 and I've knitted a scarf and mitten set and a scarf for the silent auction. I call this a new twist on knitting for charity because I'm not knitting to keep the needy warm, I'm knitting to raise money to help fund our important programs which include mental health education and advocacy and mental illness prevention. We serve over 20,000 people a year and we're constantly looking for ways to fund our good work - I'm happy that my love for knitting can help! I can't wait to come up with cute projects to make out of some of my last purchases at a fiber event in November, right before I changed jobs - I bought every color of Bon Bons available in the Lion Brand booth at Stitches East. I couldn't resist them! Perhaps they'll become adorable baby hats to use in our Parent Support Program...
