6 sts and 3 rows = 4" in pat st with size Q hook. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.
Each row is worked across length of afghan.
When joining yarn and finishing, leave 8" ends for weaving in.
Each turning ch 3 counts as first dc of next row.
Loosely ch 87 (last 3 ch will count as first dc of next row).
Row 1 (RS): Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across – 85 dc.
Ch 3, turn.
Row 2: Dc in back loop only of next st and in each st across.
Ch 3, turn.
Rep Row 2 until piece meas approx 42" wide.
Wind a single strand of yarn around a 6" piece of cardboard.
Cut yarn at one end, making 12" long strands.
Use 8 strands per fringe.
Fold strands of yarn in half to form a loop.
Knot fringe in every other st at top and bottom of afghan by inserting hook through back of work, pulling loop through, and bringing the ends through loop and tightening.
Trim ends of fringe evenly.
