Additional Materials
Size 5 (3.75 mm) - 16 inches and 36inches circular needles
GAUGE:
24 sts + 32 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Stockinette St (k every rnd). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto the left needle.

Work this new stitch through the back loop.

INSTRUCTIONS
SQUARE PATTERN (make 12)

Beg at center with A, cast on 8 sts.

Divide evenly with 2 sts on each of 4 dpns.

Join, being careful not to twist, and k 1 rnd.

Rnd 2 *K: 2, M1; rep from * on each needle – 12 sts.

Rnd 3 *K: 3, M1; rep from * on each needle – 16 sts.

Rnd 4 *K: 4, M1; rep from * on each needle – 20 sts.

Rnd 5 *P: 5, M1; rep from * on each needle – 24 sts.

Rnds 6 – 8: Continue in this manner, p one stitch more before the M1 at end of each needle as above until there are 36 sts.

Rnds 9 – 12: With B, k one stitch more before the M1 at end of each needle as above – 52 sts.

Rnds 13 – 16: P one st more before the M1 at end of each needle as above – 68 sts.

Change to circular needle, as needed and mark for beg of rnd and incs.

Continue to work, 8 rnds (4 rnds k as above, 4 rnds p as above) of each color, in the following color sequence: C, D, and E; then with F, k 4 rnds as above and p 2 rnds as above.

Bind off as if to purl, AND AT SAME TIME, mark every 47th st for ease in sewing seams.

FINISHNG

Sew together 3 across by 4 down.

BORDER

With A and longer circular needle, pick up 1 st in every stitch and mark each corner of afghan for inc.

Work in rnds of Garter St (K 1 rnd; P 1 rnd), inc as above in each corner for 9 rnds; change to B and work 2 rnds; change to F and work 2 rnds.
