6 sc = 4" (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Row 1: Sc into the 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across – 32 (34, 38, 42) sc.

Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc in each sc across.

Ch 1, turn.

Work even until piece measures 19 (20, 21, 22)" from beg, ending with a RS row.

Shape Armholes: Slip st across first 2 sc, sc to within last 2 sc.

Ch 1, turn.

Work even on 28 (30, 34, 38) sc until armholes measure 8 1/4 (9 1/4, 10, 10 1/4)".

Fasten off, leaving a 14" length for sewing shoulders.


Ch 17 (19, 21, 23).

Row 1: Sc into the 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across – 16 (18, 20, 22) sc.

Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc in each sc across.

Ch 1, turn.

Work even sc until piece measures 19 (20, 21, 22)" from beg.

Shape Armhole: Slip st across first 2 sts for underarm, sc in each sc across – 14 (16, 18, 20) sc.

Ch 1, turn.

Next Row (WS): Dec 1 sc (neck dec), sc in each sc across – 13 (15, 17, 19) sc.

Ch 1,turn.

Cont in sc, dec 1 sc at neck edge every other row 5 (6, 7, 8) more times – 8 (9, 10, 11) sc.

Work even until piece measures same as Back.

Fasten off, leaving a 14" length for sewing shoulders.


Work as for Left Front, reversing shaping.


Sew shoulder seams.

Weave in ends.

Sew side seams, leaving 4" open at lower edge for slits.

Front Edging: With RS facing and beg at Right Front lower edge, sc evenly up Right Front, sc across Back Neck dec 2 sts evenly spaced, then sc evenly down Left Front to lower edge.

Fasten off.

Armhole Edging: With RS facing and beg at lower armhole edge, sc evenly around armhole, join to first st and fasten off.

Sew clasp at point where V-neck shaping begins.
