17 sts + 22 rows = 4" (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and k them tog.

Next row (WS): K4 (garter st) P to last 4 sts, k4 (garter st). Next row (RS): Slip 1 st, k to end. Work even until 40 rows have been completed. Dec row (RS): K 1, k2tog, k to last 3 sts, ssk, k1. Repeat dec row every 20th row 3 more times – 78 (86, 94, 102, 112, 120) sts. Work even until piece measures 20½ (20, 20, 19½, 19½, 19)" from beg, ending with a WS row. RIGHT FRONT
Work to correspond to Left Front, reversing shaping. Make buttonholes opposite markers on RS rows by slip 1, k2tog, yo, k across row.
FINISHING
Sew shoulders together. Sew side seams, leaving 6 1/2" at bottom open for side slits. Weave in ends. Sew on buttons.
