Size 9 [5.5 mm] 24 in. [60 cm] circular needle
15 sts + 24 rnds = 4 inches [10 cm] in St st (k every rnd) with A. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.
M1 (make 1 st) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto the left needle.

Continue working back and forth in St st as established, moving 1 st closer to the markers every row.
When you reach the marker that begins the rnd, remove the marker and knit tog the last sl st and the first st of the next rnd to prevent a hole.
Cut A and change to 2 strands of B held tog.
Knit to 1 st before next marker.
Remove marker and knit tog the sts before and after the marker to prevent a hole.
Continue in St st for 2 1/4 inches [6.5 cm]; end at marker.
Bind off all sts very loosely (if desired, use a needle
1 or 2 sizes larger to bind off).
Weave in ends.
