GAUGE:

10 sts + 12 rows = 4 in. [10 cm] in Garter st (k every row) with 1 strand each of A and B held tog BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Pattern Stitch (worked back and forth in rows) Row 1 (RS): Knit. Row 2 (WS): Sl first st as to p, bring yarn to back between the sts, k to last st, bring yarn to front, sl last st. Rep Rows 1 and 2 for pattern st, working back and forth in rows.

BAG
Straps (make 2)
With 1 strand each of A and B held tog, cast on 10 sts. Working back and forth in rows on circular needle, work in pattern st for 6 in. [15 cm].
Inc Row (RS): Keeping in pattern, sl first st, inc 1 st in next st, k to last 2 sts, inc 1 st in next st, sl last st. Continue in pattern st and rep inc row every row 8 times more, end with a WS row – 28 sts. Place sts on a holder.

Join Straps and Body
Next Row (RS) With circular needle, and 1 strand each of A and B held tog, k 28 sts of First Strap, cast on 12 sts for body, k 28 sts of Second Strap, cast on 12 sts – 80 sts. Place marker and join for working in the rnd. Work in Garter st worked in the round (k 1 rnd, p 1 rnd) until piece measures 10 in. [25.5 cm] from joining rnd, end with a purl rnd.
Dec Rnd (K 8, k 2 tog) 8 times – 72 sts. P1 rnd.
Dec Rnd (K 7, k 2 tog) 8 times – 64 sts. P1 rnd.
Continue in this manner to dec 8 sts on every other rnd, having 1 less st between decs on each dec rnd and changing to dpns when necessary, until 8 sts rem. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Draw tail through rem 8 sts and pull tightly tog.

FINISHING
Sew cast-on ends of straps tog. Weave in ends.
