GAUGE:
18 sts and 24 rows = 4 in. [10 cm] inSt st worked in the round (k everyround). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying betweenthe needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop.M1 as if to purl (make 1 st as if to purl) An increase worked by liftingthe horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto the left needle. Purl this newstitch through the back loop.
NOTES:
Afghan is worked from center out,beginning with a few stitches andincreasing to many. Change to longerneedle lengths as needed.
INSTRUCTIONS
AFGHAN
With double pointed needles and A, cast on 8 sts. Divide sts evenly onto 4 dpns, with 2 sts oneach needle. Join, taking care not to twist sts and place marker for beg of rnd.
Rnd 1: Knit.
Rnd 2: * K 2, M1, place marker, rep from * to end of rnd - 12 sts.
Rnds 3-6: * K to marker, M1 at marker, rep from * to end of rnd - 4 sts inc every rnd - 28sts at end of Rnd 6.
Rnd 7: Change to B. * K to marker, M1 at marker, rep from * to end of rnd - 32 sts.
Rnds 8-12: * P to marker, M1 as if to purl at marker, rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnds 13-18: * K to marker, M1 at marker, rep from * to end of rnd. Rep Rnds 7-18, working in thefollowing color sequence: C, D, E, C, B, A, F, G, F, A, D, E, G. After working final Rnd 18 (in G),continue with G in garter st (p 1 rnd, k 1 rnd) for 5 rnds.
Bind off all sts loosely.
