GAUGE:
26 sts = 4 in. [10 cm] in k 2, p 2 rib pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
2LT (left twist) Slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold in front, p1, then k2 from cable needle.
2RT (right twist) Slip 1 st to cable needle and hold in back, k2, then p1 from cable needle.
CR (cross right) Slip 3 sts to cable needle and hold in back, k2, then slip purl st fromcable needle to left needle, p1, then k2 from cable needle.
CL (cross left) Slip 3 sts to cable needle and hold in front, k2, then slip purl st fromcable needle to left needle, p1, then k2 from cable needle.

Foundation Row (WS): K1, p2, (k2, p2) 8 times, k1, p2, k3, p2, k1, (p2, k2) 4 times, k1.
Row 1: P1, (p2, k2) 4 times, p1, 2LT, p1, 2RT, p1, k2, (p2, k2) 8 times, p1.
Rows 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10: K the k sts and p the p sts.
Row 3: P1, (p2, k2) 4 times, p2, CR, p2, k2, (p2, k2) 8 times, p1.
Row 5: P1, (p2, k2) 4 times, p1, 2RT, p1, 2LT, p1, k2, (p2, k2) 8 times, p1.

Thumb Gusset
Row 1 (RS): Work in pattern as established over 18 sts, place marker (pm), k into front and backof next 2 sts, pm, work in pattern to end of row - 39 sts.
Row 2: Work in pattern to first marker, sl marker, p4, sl marker, work in pattern to end ofrow.
Row 3: Work in pattern to first marker, sl marker, k into front and back of next st, k to 2sts before 2nd marker, k into front and back of next st, k1, sl marker, work in pattern to end ofrow - 41 sts.
Rep last 2 rows until there are 16 sts between markers, end with a WS row.
