GAUGE: Motif A = 7½ in. [19 cm] BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: dc2tog (dc dec) Yarn over, insert hook into st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through

Arch Stitch

Row 2: Ch 4, turn, sc in first ch-4 sp, *ch 4, sc in next ch-4 sp, rep from * across.
Rep Row 2 for Arch st pattern.

PULLOVER
Make 24 (24, 24, 30, 30, 30) Motif A. Make 4 Motif B.
BACK
Sew 3 Motif A squares together to make a strip. Make 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3) strips. Sew the
strips together along the long edges to make a center piece. For smaller three sizes the
center piece is rectangular, with shorter top and lower edges. For larger three sizes the
center piece is square. From RS, join yarn at top right hand corner and work Row 1 of Arch st
across top edge of center piece. Continue in Arch st for 0 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) more rows.
Shape Shoulders
Next Row: Work next row of Arch st over 2 (2, 2, 5 3/4, 5 3/4, 5 3/4) in. [5 (5, 5, 14.5,
14.5, 14.5) cm] of sts. Skip remaining sts. Fasten off. Turn piece and join yarn in corner at
opposite edge. Work Row 1 of Arch st over 2 (2, 2, 5 3/4, 5 3/4, 5 3/4) in. [5 (5, 5, 14.5,
14.5, 14.5) cm] of sts. Skip center 11 in. [28 cm] for neck. Fasten off.
Shape Side Gussets
With RS facing, join yarn in lower right corner. Working along right edge of center piece,
work Row 1 of Arch st to top corner of middle Motif A. Skip remaining sts, turn. Continue in
Arch st over these sts for 1 (2, 3, 1, 2, 3) more rows. Fasten off. Repeat on left side,
joining yarn in top corner of middle Motif A and working towards lower edge.
FRONT
Work as for Back.

SLEEVE (make 2)
Sew 2 Motif B squares together to make a strip. Sew 2 Motif A squares together to make a
strip. Sew 2 more Motif A squares together. Sew Motif A strips together along one long edge to
make a large square. Place Motif A piece centered over Motif B strip and sew together along
long edge. Motif B strip forms wider cuff of sleeve.
Shape Sleeve Underarm
From RS, join yarn with sl st to lower right corner of sleeve rectangle. Working along
long sleeve edge, work Row 1 of Arch st. Continue with Row 2 of Arch st for 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
more rows. Fasten off. Repeat on left side, joining yarn at top left corner and working
towards lower edge.
FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams. Sew Sleeves into armhole. Sew side and Sleeve seams.
Collar
Sew remaining 4 Motif A squares into a strip. Sew beg and last squares together to make
collar. Sew collar into neck opening, easing to fit.
Cuff Edging
From RS, join yarn with sl st to cuff edge. Work Row 1 of Arch st along cuff edge of
sleeve. Fasten off.
Edging
From RS, join yarn in any seam at top of collar. Ch 1, sc in same st, work 5 dc in each ch-sp,
and work sc in each sc and seam around collar. Fasten off.
Repeat edging along lower edge of sweater and around each cuff.
Weave in ends.
