GAUGE:

Rnds 1-3 of Afghan = 5 in. [12.5 cm]. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

COLOR SEQUENCE

Work 1 round A, 1 round B, 1 round C. Rep through Rnd 27. Work Rnds 28-30 with C only.

Note: When changing colors, join new color in a different corner to keep afghan square.

AFGHAN
With A, ch 4, sl st in beg ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in ring, ch 3, (3 dc in ring, ch 3) 3 times, join with sl st in top of beg ch-3. Fasten off.
Rnd 2: Join B with sl st in any ch-3 sp, ch 3 (counts as dc), (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same sp (beg corner made), ch 1, * (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-3 sp (corner made), ch 1, rep from * around, join with sl st in top of beg ch-3. Fasten off.
Rnd 3: Join C with sl st in any corner ch-3 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, * (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next corner ch-3 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, rep from * around, join with sl st in top of beg ch-3. Fasten off.
Rnd 4: Join A with sl st in any corner ch-3 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same sp, ch 1, (3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) twice, * (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next corner ch-3 sp, ch 1, (3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) twice, rep from * around, join with sl st in top of beg ch-3. Fasten off.
Rnds 5-27: Rep Rnd 4, adding one more (3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) group between corners on each side every round and changing colors according to Color Sequence. At end of Rnd 27, do not fasten off C.
Rnd 28: Sl st in next 2 dc and in corner ch-3 sp, ch 3, and complete as for Rnd 4.
Rnds 29-30: Rep Rnd 28. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.

I LOVE this pattern! I made one for my mom and one for my sister for Christmas 2008. They loved them and they looked so nice. The name makes it even better! This is a great pattern, easy to follow and quick (each blanket took less than a week). The only change I made was to make them both a little bigger.
