GAUGE:
16 sts + 21 rows = 4 in. [10 cm] in K 1, p 1 ribbing. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
PATTERN STITCH
K 1, p 1 Rib
Row 1: *K 1, p 1, rep from * across. Row 2: K the k sts and p the p sts.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for K 1, P 1 Ribbing.
SCARF
* With 1 strand of A and 1 strand of B held together, cast on 20 sts. Work in K 1, p1 Rib for 2
1/2 in. [6.5 cm].
Cut A and continue in ribbing with B only for 5 in. [12.5 cm].
Change to 1 strand of C and 1 strand of D held tog and work as established for 2½ in. [6.5 cm].
