SINGLE MITTEN (make 2)
With smaller needles and A, cast on 36 sts. Divide sts evenly onto 4 needles and join, being
careful not to twist sts. Place marker for beg of rnd.
Next Rnd: With A, work in K1, p1 Rib.
Next Rnd: With B, knit.
With B, continue in k1, p1 Rib until piece measures 3 in. [7.5 cm] from beg. Change to larger
needles and work in St st (k every rnd) until piece measures 3½ in. [9 cm] from beg.
Thumb shaping
Rnd 1: K17, inc 1 in next st, k to end – 37 sts.
Rnd 2: K17, place marker, k3, place marker, k to end.
Rnd 3: K to first marker, slip marker, inc 1 in next st, inc 1 in next st, k1, slip marker, k
to end – 5 sts between markers.
Rnd 4: Knit.
Rnd 5: K to first marker, slip marker, inc 1 in next st, k to 2 sts before 2nd marker, inc 1
in next st, k1, slip marker, k to end.
Rnd 6: Knit.
Rep last 2 rnds until there are 15 sts between markers.
Next Rnd: K to first marker, remove marker, k1, slip next 13 sts to a holder, k1, remove
marker, k to end.
Work even in St st on 36 sts until piece measures 10 in. [25.5 cm] from beg.
Shape Top
Rnd 1: *K4, k2tog; rep from * around – 30 sts.
Rnds 2, 4, 6 and 8: Knit.
Rnd 3: *K3, k2tog; rep from * around – 24 sts.
Rnd 5: *K2, k2tog; rep from * around – 18 sts.
Rnd 7: *K1, k2tog; rep from * around – 12 sts.
Rnd 9: K2tog around – 6 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Draw tail through rem sts and pull tightly together to secure. Fasten
off.
Thumb
Divide sts from holder evenly onto 3 needles. From right side, join yarn. Pick up and k 3 sts
along edge of hand, then k rem sts – 16 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd.
Next Rnd: K3tog, k to end of rnd – 14 sts.
Work even in St st until Thumb measures 2¼ in. [5.5 cm].\
Next Rnd: *K2tog around – 7 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Draw tail through rem sts and pull tightly together to secure. Fasten
off.
HAND HOLDING MITTEN
Cuffs (make 2)
With smaller needles and A, cast on 36 sts. Divide sts evenly onto 4 needles and join, being careful not to twist sts. Place marker for beg of rnd.
Next Rnd: With A, work in K1, p1 Rib.
Next Rnd: With B, knit.
With B, continue in k1, p1 Rib until piece measures 3 in. [7.5 cm] from beg.
Change to larger needles and work in St st until pieces measures 3 1/2 in. [9 cm] from beg. Sl sts to a holder.
Make a second Cuff the same, but do not sl sts to a holder.
Join Cuffs
Next Rnd: K 36 sts of Cuff, cast on 3 sts (mark 2nd of these sts), k 36 sts of Cuff from holder, cast on 3 sts (mark 2nd of these sts) - 78 sts.
Divide sts evenly onto 4 needles. Work in St st until piece measures 4 1/2 in. [11.5 cm] from beg.
Shape hand
Rnd 1: *K to 1 st before marked st, k3tog (keep this st marked), rep from * once, k to end of rnd - 74 sts.
Rnd 2 and 3: Knit.
Rep last 3 rnds until 38 sts rem, end with Rnd 3.
Next Rnd: K9, k2tog, k17, k2tog, k to end - 36 sts.
K 1 rnd. Shape top as for Single Mitten.
