9½ sts + 12 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with A. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

knit or
crochet a fringe, or use hairspray or fray check.

King of the Beasts (Lion) Dog Sweater Reviewed by L. Jack on 2009-09-24
Nugget, just under 9 lbs., is charcoal grey so changed the colors but went with pattern yarn type suggestions. One ball of the heavy body yarn was plenty for him. Had to size down the size small and slightly increase the chest to fit the deeper poodle/shitzu chest. Skip the dp needles and just crochet around front legs, much easier. Crochet around neck to finish, also much easier. Make the head/mane as a separate piece! It gets heavy for a little dog; you will want to remove it pretty quickly. Tied the tail on so can be removed to wash. Doubled the yarn in the tassel for tail.
Makes up very quickly!
