GAUGE:

6 hdc + 5 rows = 4 in. [10 cm]. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Striped Dog Sweater Reviewed by Rachael El Shami on 2008-08-30 *****
I didn't make this pattern exactly as shown, but I used the basic measurements (tweaked a bit to fit my mom's dog), and she said that it's the best-fitting dog sweater that her dog (a miniature Doberman) has. I used a smaller yarn and smaller hook, which resulted in a very thick sweater, which mom says can only be used on the coldest days of winter, or else she'll get too hot... but she says that her little doggie just absolutely loves wearing the sweater I made for her. :)
