Lignt 'n' lacy Braided Headband

GAUGE:
One Headband Strip = 1 in. [2.5 cm] wide. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
HEADBAND STRIP (make 3) With 2 strands of yarn held together, chain 36. Row 1: Double crochet in 4th chain from hook and in each remaining chain across. Fasten off.
Finishing
Place 3 Strips on top of one another and sew together at one end. Braid Strips, and then sew
together at other end. Weave in ends. Cut ribbon length in half, sew one half to each end of
Headband.

I agree with it being too small. One band did reach from ear to ear but definitely wouldn't when you braid them together and I used a J hook. Maybe the pattern should read "crochet very loosely". It's a shame because it's a really cute pattern.
