Cabled Baby Set with embelishments Reviewed by Valerie Jalbert on 2009-06-03 ****
I made this sweater and hat in LB Cotton Bamboo yarn in Hyacinth blue #487-107. The first time I made the sweater the neck opening was too small to pull over a baby's head without difficulty, and the sleeve width was too narrow where it met the shoulder. Hence It was given to my daughter for her teddy bear. Who is now the best dressed teddy in the room!

The second time I made the sweater I added some structural and visual details that improved on the overall pattern. (I think)
I decided to leave one shoulder seam open and added a narrow placket in garter st. with 3 small button holes centered on the front shoulder placket and also one at the begining of the neck band. I also added a placket on the back shoulder for buttons. Now the sweater opens fully at the one shoulder making it easy to get over baby's head. I also added 2 additional cables similar to the center cable but narrower in only 2/2 of the same cable pattern. They run up the front sides straight up to the shoulder seam. I also made these side cables on the back to match as well. In addition, I added the same narrow 2/2 cable running down the center of each sleeve. These additional cables added a lot esthetically to the overall look.

I made the hat, by incorporating the same 2/2 cable pattern to match the sweater.

All in all I am pleased with the final results.

Perhaps the problem I encountered with the small head and arm openings were produced because of the type of yarn I used. It was a bit smaller in gauge than the one suggested in the pattern. But the buttons on the shoulder and adding 4 additional stitches to the widith of the sleeves made a great improvement.
Overall the patten was very easy to follow. I have also made the pants and they were simple as well.

This will make a lovely baby gift.
Thanks Lion Brand for making this pattern available.

Valerie
