Lion Brand® Lion Cotton - Cotton-Ease (new)

GAUGE:

13 sts + 18½ rows = 4 in. [10 cm] in pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

sp-2 (spike st 2 rows below) A single crochet worked in the st corresponding to the next st, but 2 rows below the working row (instead of in the usual st 1 row below the working row).

COLOR SEQUENCE
*1 row A, 1 row B, 1 row C, 1 row D, 1 row E, 1 row F, 1 row G; rep from * for color sequence.

NOTES:

  1. Unused colors should be carried up wrong side of work.
  2. To change color, work last stitch to the point where there are 2 loops on hook, yarn over with new color to complete stitch.

FRONT
With A, ch 40.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across; change to B in last st – 39 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 3 sc, (sc in next st 2 rows below (sp-2 made), sc in next 3 sts) across; change to C in last st.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in first sc, (sp-2 over next st, sc in next 3 sts) across to last 2 sts, sp-2 over next st, sc in last sc; change to D in last st.
Continuing in Color Sequence, rep Rows 2 and 3 for pattern until 33 rows have been worked, end with 1 row E.
Row 34 (Eyelet Row): With F, ch 1, turn, sc in first sc, ch 1, skip next st, sc in next st, (sp-2 over next st, sc in next st, ch 1, skip next st, sc in next st) across; change to G in last st.
Continue to work in Color Sequence and pattern for 5 more rows. Fasten off.

BACK
Work same as Front.

TIE
With A, ch 8. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

FINISHING
Seam Front to Back, leaving openings for spout and handle. Weave in ends. Weave Tie through eyelet row. Knot ends of Tie.

Tea Cozy Reviewed by Shelley Spence on 2008-05-13 *****
This was quick to make and I just used scraps of cotton yarn. It is easily adjustable to even a HUGE teapot and the density makes it work like it should!
