Polyester fiberfill 2 black buttons, 9 mm diameter or scrap of black felt Brown embroidery floss and embroidery needle Powdered blush Cotton swab Sewing needle and thread NOTE Materials are sufficient to make several dolls.
GAUGE:
20 sc + 27 rows = 4 in. [10 cm]. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
sc2tog (sc dec) (Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop) twice, yarn over and drawthrough all 3 loops on hook - 1 sc decreased.

Rnd 3: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around - 18 sc. Rnd 4: *2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 2 sc; rep from * around - 24 sc. Rnd 5: *2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 3 sc; rep from * around - 30 sc. Rnd 6: *2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 4 sc; rep from * around - 36 sc. Rnds 7-13: Sc in each sc around. Rnd 14: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 4 sc; rep from * around - 30 sts. Rnd 15: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 3 sc; rep from * around - 24 sts. Rnd 16: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 2 sc; rep from * around - 18 sts. Rnd 17: *Sc2tog, sc in next sc; rep from * around - 12 sts. Remove hook from worktemporarily, and stuff head firmly. Rnd 18: Sc2tog around - 6 sts. Fasten off. Sew 2 buttons to face for eyes. If doll is for a small child, substitute 2 felt circles for buttoneyes. With A, embroider a few straight stitches onto center of first rnd for nose. With floss,embroider straight stitch smile several rnds below nose. With cotton swab, apply a small amount ofblush to cheeks. Hair Join D to head with sc, beginning at back of Head, just above last rnd. Work in sc with D aroundHead, working in a spiral towards last rnd. Work loosely to avoid pulling Head out of shape. Fastenoff, weave in ends. BODY Sweater With C, ch 2. Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in first chain. Mark first st for beg of rnd; move marker up each rnd. Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around - 12 sc.
