GAUGE:
12 sc + 15 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) before felting. EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL FOR THIS PROJECT. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
Surface Chain Insert hook from right side to wrong side. Place yarn on hook with slip knot and draw loop to right side. *Insert hook from right side to wrong side through next sp, yarn over and draw loop through work and loop on hook; rep from * to complete design.


INSTRUCTIONS



PURSE With A, ch 43. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across - 42 sc. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across. Rows 3-6: Rep Row 2. Row 7: Join B. Do not end off A and do not turn. With B, ch 1, sc in each st across. Fasten off B. Row 8: Do not turn, pick up A and ch 1, sc in each st across. Rows 9-13: With A, ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across. Rows 14-27: Rep Rows 6-12 twice. Fasten off. Loop Join A with sl st in center of one side. Chain 10, slip stitch in base of chain to form loop. Fasten off. FINISHING With B, work 3 lines of surface chain spaced evenly across piece. Weave in ends. Felting Wash by machine on a hot wash/cold rinse cycle with detergent and several pieces of clothing to agitate. To felt additionally, dry by machine on a regular setting until almost dry. Remove from dryer and pull to about 10 x 6 in. (25.5 x 15 cm). Fold piece to about 4 x 6 in. (10 x 15 cm), leaving a 2 in. (5 cm) flap and aligning surface chain lines at sides. Sew side seams. Sew button opposite loop.
