GAUGE:
14 sts + 26 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Stripe pattern with larger needles. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Boy's Striped Cardigan Reviewed by Josie Grantham on 2009-04-20
Have just completed two of these for my great grandsons. I wish I had seen the comment about the buttonholes as I am in full agreement about them being too far in as the edging is added afterwards.
I struggled with the making up of the garment too. All those ends! Any tips welcome as I intend knitting with alternative shades. Will post a photograph when the boys start wearing them. The knitting was easy and they look good.
