GAUGE:
24 sts and 32 rows = 4 in [10 cm] with Size 4 needles in stockinette and pat st. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

SWEATER BACK With smaller needles, cast on 55 sts. Work in k 1, p 1 rib for 3/4", endRS. Change to larger needles. Work in pat st, beg with Row 1, until 8 1/4" frombeg, end pat Row 4 (WS). Shape armholes Cont in St st (k on RS, p on WS), bind off 3 sts at beg ofnext 2 rows, end WS. Place rem 49 st on holder. LEFT FRONT With smaller needles, cast on 25 sts. Work in k 1, p 1 rib for 3/4", endRS. Change to larger needles. Work in pat st, beg with Row 1, until 8 1/4" frombeg, end pat Row 4 (WS). Shape armhole: Next row (RS) Cont in St st, bind off 3 sts at beg of row. Next row (WS) Purl. Place rem 22 sts on holder. RIGHT FRONT Work as for Left Front until 8 1/4" from beg end pat Row 1 (RS).
