GAUGE: 12 dc + 5 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

HAT
With 1 strand each of A and B held tog, ch 4; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, work 15 dc in ring; join with sl st in top of beg ch.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in each dc; join with sl st in top of beg ch – 30 dc.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of
beg ch – 45 dc.
Rnd 4: Ch 3, *dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of
beg ch – 54 dc.
Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in next 5 dc, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 6 dc; rep from * around; join with
sl st in top of beg ch – 61 dc.
Rnd 6: Rep Row 5 – 69 dc.
Rnd 7-13: Ch 3, dc in each dc around; join with sl st in top of beg ch.
