GAUGE:

13 stitches + 20 rows = 4 in. [10 cm] in Stockinette st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Simple Hooded Cardigan Reviewed by Kelly Fouhey on 2009-03-20 *****
This sweater was easy to make & turned out well. I wish I had made it slightly larger because my daughter has grown so quickly. I substituted yarns, using the Lion Suede yarn because I happened to find some on sale and liked the texture. The pattern calls for garter stitch on the hood and sleeves, but I stuck with St. because I'm not crazy about the look of garter. I also lined the hood with fabric and used coordinating buttons. It's such a clear & simple pattern that it's easy to make it your own, even for a less experienced knitter like myself.
