GAUGE:
14 sc + 17 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
sc2tog (sc decrease) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook. sc3tog Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. (Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop) twice. Yarn over, draw through all 4 loops on hook.

Crochet Puppy Reviewed by Ruth McCrea on 2008-06-07
The puppy is adorable, and almost whimsical, but I am on my second one and I still think there is an error in the instructions where you finish the top of the front and the top of the back, and get ready to "join front and back." Give it a try!
