GAUGE:

14 sc + 17 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

sc2tog (sc decrease) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Crochet Kitten Reviewed by Heather Mahmoud on 2008-01-28 *****
As a beginner, I was challenged by the pattern directions (which is due to me being pattern-challenged, apparently, NOT due to a problem with them) -- but I found that once I got the hang of it, this was a very quick and easy project.

It took only a few hours to do and the result was wonderful for a newbie like me. My 3 year old LOVES it and it was a good way for me to practice since it wasn't a huge project to undertake.

I also have plenty of leftover yarn to make another for a baby on the way in the family.
