GAUGE: 16 hdc and 10.5 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: | sc2tog (sc dec) Insert hook into stitch and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next stitch and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook.

NOTES: Chain 2 at beginning of each row counts as hdc.

CROWN
With A, ch 21 (25, 29).
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across - 20 (24, 28) hdc.
Row 2: Ch 2, (counts as first hdc on this row and every row throughout), turn, hdc in each hdc across, 2 hdc in beg ch - 21 (25, 29) hdc.
Row 3: Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in each hdc across - 23 (27, 31) hdc.
Row 4: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each hdc across to last st, 2 hdc in last st - 24 (28, 32) hdc.
Row 5: Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc across - 26 (30, 34) hdc.
Row 6: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each hdc across to last 4 sts, (hdc2tog) twice - 24 (28, 32) hdc.
Row 7: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog, hdc in each hdc across - 23 (27, 31) hdc.
Row 8: Ch 2, turn, hdc across to last 4 sts, (hdc2tog) twice - 21 (25, 29) hdc.
Row 9: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog, hdc in each hdc across - 20 (24, 28) hdc.
Repeat Rows 2 - 9 for points, until 7 (8, 9) points have been made.
Work 1 row hdc. Fasten off and weave in ends. Felt crown according to directions below.
LEAF (Make 3 (3, 4) with B, 2 (3, 3) with C and 2 (2, 2) with D)
Ch 3. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in last ch - 2 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Sc in each sc. Ch 1, turn.
Next Row: Work 2 sc in first sc (inc made), sc in each sc across to last sc, inc 1 in last sc. Ch 1, turn.
Rep last row 3 more times - 10 sc.
Work even in sc for 5 rows.
Next Row: Slip st in first 2 sts, in next 6 sc, skip last 2 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Next Row: Sc2tog over first 2 sc, sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Rep last row 4 times. Fasten off and weave in ends. Felt Leaves according to directions below.
FELTING
Place pieces in a mesh laundry bag or pillowcase and wash by machine on a hot wash/cold rinse cycle with detergent and several pieces of clothing to agitate. To felt additionally, dry by machine on a regular setting until almost dry. Remove from dryer and pull into shape.
FINISHING
Once felt is completely dry, sew Leaves to points of Crown. Sew hook and loop tape to ends of Crown.
