GAUGE: 9 single crochet = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES: Hat is worked in continuous rounds. Do not join at end of rounds.

| I used a larger hook than recommended to make the hat a bit bigger. I also modified the ties - did sc instead of what the pattern called for. The front flap wouldn't lay flat for me so I tacked it down with thread. After I got it completed and had my nephew try it on, the ear flaps weren't large enough so I added an extra row (or two - can't remember which) to them.
