GAUGE:
16 sts + 30 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.


INSTRUCTIONS
BACK With A, cast on 44 (48, 52, 56, 60) sts. Work even in Garter st (k every row) until Back measures 13 (14, 15, 17, 19) in. (33 (35.5, 38, 43, 48.5) cm) from beg. Bind off. RIGHT FRONT With A, cast on 26 (28, 30, 32, 34) sts. Work even in Garter st until piece measures 7 1/2 (8 1/2, 9, 10 1/2, 12) in. (19.5 (21.5, 23, 26.5, 30.5) from beg, end with a WS row. With B, work in Garter st for 8 rows. With A, work in Garter st for 8 rows. With B, work in Garter st for 8 rows. With A, continue in Garter st until piece measures 11 (12, 13, 15, 17) in. (28 (30.5, 33, 38, 43) cm) from beg, end with a WS row. Shape Neck Work in Garter st and bind off 11 (12, 13, 14, 15) sts at beg of next RS row once, bind off 2 sts at beg of next RS row once, dec 1 st at beg of next RS row twice - 11 (12, 13, 14, 15) sts. Work even in Garter st until Front measures same as Back. Bind off. Mark placement for 5 buttons evenly spaced along Front edge with top button 1/2 in (1.5 cm) below neck edge and lowest button 1 1/2 in. (4 cm) above lower edge. LEFT FRONT Work as for Right Front, reversing all shaping and working buttonholes opposite markers as follows: Buttonhole Row (WS): K3, bind off next 2 sts, k to end of row. Next Row: K, cast on 2 sts over bound-off sts of previous row.
SLEEVES With B, cast on 26 (28, 30, 32, 34) sts. Work in Garter st, inc 1 st each edge every 8th row 7 (8, 9, 10, 11) times - 40 (44, 48, 52, 56) sts. Work even in Garter st until Sleeve measures 11 (12, 13, 14, 15) in. (28 (30.5, 33, 35.5, 38) cm) from beg. Bind off.
HOOD With A, cast on 64 (68, 72, 76, 80) sts. Work even in Garter st for 8 rows. With B, work in Garter st for 8 rows. With A, work in Garter st until Hood measures 6 (7, 8, 9, 10) in. (15 (18, 20.5, 23, 25.5) cm) from beg. Bind off.
ELBOW PATCHES (make 2) With A, cast on 8 (10, 10, 12, 12) sts. Work in Garter st, inc 1 st at beg of next 4 rows - 12 (14, 14, 16, 16) sts. Work even in Garter st for 18 (20, 20, 22, 22) rows. Work in Garter st, dec 1 st at beg of next 4 rows - 8 (10, 10, 12, 12) sts. Bind off. FINISHING Sew shoulder seams. Front Edging From RS with A, beg at lower edge of Right Front, pick up and k 1 st in each Garter ridge along Right Front. Bind off. Rep edging on Left Front. Fold Hood in half and sew bound-off edges together. Sew edge of hood around neck, beg and ending at center of Front opening. Place markers 5 (5 1/2, 6, 6 1/2, 7) in. (12.5 (14, 15, 16.5, 18) cm) down from shoulders on Fronts and Back. Sew Sleeves to body between markers. Sew side and Sleeve seams. Sew on Elbow Patches. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes. Weave in ends.
