GAUGE: 16 sts = 4 sts in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

I love this pattern. I made pairs for myself and 5 friends to keep our feet warm during our Pilates class. Very, very easy--and very practical. LOVE this pattern.
I am an advanced knitter, and I wish I had done a project like this before I attempted socks. After working this pattern, working a heel might not have seemed as daunting.
