kfb (knit into front and then back) An increase worked as follows: 1. Knit the next st through the front loop, but do not remove the st from your left hand needle. 2. Knit the same st once more, this time inserting your needle through the back loop of the st. You will have created 2 loops (sts) on your right hand needle. 3. Foam ball, about 16 1/2 in. (42 cm) circumference
STITCH EXPLANATION:
M1 (make 1)An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto left needle.

Knit this new stitch through the back loop.

kfb (knit into front and then back) An increase worked as follows: 1.

Knit the next st through the front loop, but do not remove the st from your left hand needle.

2.

Knit the same st once more, this time inserting your needle through the back loop of the st.

You will have created 2 loops (sts) on your right hand needle.3.

Drop the st from your left hand needle – you have increased 1 st!

PATTERN STITCHES Mock Cable Row 1: Knit.

Row 2: Purl.

Row 3 : P2, *k in back loop of 2nd st on LH needle, then k in front loop of 1st st on LH needle, sl both sts from needle together, k in front loop of 2nd st on LH needle, then k in front loop of 1st st on LH needle, sl both sts from needle together, p2, rep from * across.

Row 4: K2, *p4, k2, rep from * across.

Row 5: Knit.

Row 6: Purl.

Rep Rows 1-6 for Mock Cable pattern.


INSTRUCTIONS



ORNAMENT With A, cast on 6 sts.

Row 1: Purl.

Row 2: K in front and back of each st across - 12 sts.

Rows 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11: Purl.

Row 4: With A, Kfb in first st, *M1, k1, rep from * – 24 sts.

Row 6: With A, Kfb in first st, k1, *M1, k2, rep from * across – 36 sts.

Row 8: With A, Kfb in first st, k2, *M1, k3, rep from * across – 48 sts.

Row 10: With A, Kfb in first st, k5, *M1, k6, rep from * across – 56 sts.

Row 12: *Kfb, k2, kfb, k3; rep from * across - 72 sts.

Row 13: Purl, increase 2 sts evenly spaced across - 74 sts.

Next Row: Work Row 1 of Mock Cable pattern across.

Continue to work in Mock Cable pattern until 4 reps of Cable pattern have been worked.

Next Row: Knit.

Next Row: Purl, decrease 2 sts evenly spaced across- 72 sts.

Next Row: *K4, k2tog, rep from * across - 60 sts.

Next Row: Purl.

Next Row: *K3, k2tog, rep from * across - 48 sts.

Next Row: Purl.

Next Row: *K2, k2tog, rep from * across - 36 sts.

Next Row: Purl.

Next Row: *K1, k2tog, rep from * across - 24 sts.

Next Row: Purl.

Next Row: *K2tog, rep from * across - 12 sts.

Next Row: Purl.

Rep last 2 rows once more - 6 sts.

Next Row: Change to double pointed needles.

K2tog across - 3 sts.

Hanging LoopDo not turn work.

Slide sts to other end of needle and k3.

Continue to slide sts to other end of needle and k3 until cord measures about 7 in (18 cm).

Bind off.

Sew bound-off end of cord to beginning to make loop.





FINISHING Wrap piece around foam ball and sew seam, drawing in sts of bound-off and cast-on edges.

Sew bound off end of cord to top of Ornament.

Weave in ends.
