GAUGE:
8 sts and 12 rows = 4 in. [10 cm] in rev St st. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
PATTERN STITCH (Note: For all except slide rows, turn work at end
of row as usual to be ready for next row. Sliding sts to other end of needle
results in striped reverse St st fabric without cutting of A and B for one row
stripes. Carry colors not in use loosely along side.) Rows 1 & 3 (RS): With A, purl.

BACK:
Lower portion: With A, cast on 28 sts. Work in pat st for 21 (23, 25, 27½,
30, 32½) in.. Bind off.
Bottom edge: With RS facing and A, pick up and k 42 (46, 50, 55, 60, 65) sts
evenly along one side edge (not cast-on or bound-off edge). With A, knit 6 rows
(3 ridges). Bind off.
Yoke: With RS facing and A, pick up and k 42 (46, 50, 55, 60, 65) sts evenly
along opp side edge (not cast-on or bound-off edge). With A, work in rev St st
for 10 (10, 11, 11, 12, 12) in..
Note: Piece should meas 25 (25, 26, 26, 27, 27) in. in length. Bind off.
RIGHT FRONT:
Lower portion:
With A, cast on 28 sts. Work in pat st for 10½ (11½, 12½,
13½, 15, 16) in.. Bind off.

SLEEVES:
With A, cast on 20 (20, 22, 22, 24, 24) sts. Knit 6 rows (3
ridges). Work in rev St st, inc 1 st at each end every 4th row 10 (10, 11, 11,
12, 12) times -- 40 (40, 44, 44, 48, 48) sts. Work even until Sleeve meas 18 in.

FINISHING:
Sew shoulder seams. Sew in Sleeves.
Button band: With RS facing and A, pick up and k 52 (52, 54, 54, 56, 56) sts
evenly along center Front (Left Front for female; Right Front for male). Knit 1
row A, 2 rows B, 2 rows A, binding off loosely on last row.
Buttonhole band: Work in same manner as button band (Right Front for
female; Left Front for male), however, working six buttonholes (= k2tog, yo)
evenly spaced on RS, B row.
Collar: With RS facing and A, beg and ending at button band st next to
body, pick up and k approx 34 (38, 41, 44, 47, 50) sts around neck edge. Work in
garter st (k every row), inc 1 st at each end of collar (k in back and front of
2nd st from beg of row and in 3rd st from end of row) every other row 8 times
(or 10 times for wider collar, if desired). Knit 2 rows even, binding off
loosely on last row. Weave in ends. Sew on buttons.
