LION BRAND circular knitting needle size 8 (5 mm), 29 in. long
GAUGE:
16 sts + 21 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
PATTERN STITCH
K1, p1 Rib (multiple of 2 sts)
Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to across.


Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.


Rep Row 2 for K1, p1 Rib.

NOTES:
Circular needle is used to accommodate large number of sts.

Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.


INSTRUCTIONS



SHRUG
Cast on 136 sts.

Work in K1, p1 Rib until piece measures 2 in.

(5 cm) from beg.


Work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures 36 in.

(91.5 cm) from beg.


Work in K1, p1 Rib until piece measures 38 in.

(96.5 cm) from beg.

Bind off.



FINISHING
Fold piece in half, bringing cast-on edge and bound-off edges together, to measure 34 x 19 in.

(85.5 x 48.5 cm).

Place markers on each of the 19 in.

(48.5 cm) sides, 7 in.

(18 cm) below fold for armholes.

Seam sides from marker down to lower edge.

Weave in ends.
