Little Felted Spool-Knit Teddy Bear Lion Brand®
Lion Wool
GAUGE:
Exact gauge is not important to this project
BEAR With your spool knitter, create three pieces of braid using 2
strand of Lion Wool worked together; one approximately 18 inches
long, one approximately 4 inches long and one approximately 4.5
inches long. The first piece will become the body of the
bear, the second the arms and the third the legs.
Starting with the body piece, fold it approximately in
half, leaving one side about an inch longer than the
other. Thread the large-eyed, blunt needle with yarn
and stitch through the braid approximately 1 inch [2.5 cm]
from the folded point. This will become the head of
your bear.
Using the longer piece of braid, bring it up in back of
the loop that you just created and pull it through so it
stick out on the other side about 1/2 in [1 cm]. This
will be the nose of your bear.
Bring the other end up to the point where you sewed
through the braid to create the loop. Take a few
stitches to tack that end into place.
Cut a 8-in [20 cm] piece of yarn, double it over and tie
around the place where the stitches were taken to make the
neck. You'll now have a loop on top with the 'nose'
sticking through and two loops below. Position the
two short pieces through the loop -- the shorter one for the
arms is closer to the head than the piece that is the legs.
Starting at the head, sew down the right side of the bear,
joining front to back and the arms and legs to the
body. Sew the left side together in the same
manner. Sew the bear together in the center down the
tummy and up the back.
When you reach the head, use a few stitches to hold the nose
in place and add several stitches for the ears.
FELTING
Wash the little bear by machine on a hot wash/cold rinse
cycle with detergent and several pieces of clothing to agitate.
To felt additionally, dry by machine on a regular setting until
almost dry. Remove from dryer and tweak into shape.
FINISHING
Using the embroidery needle and thread, add a nose and mouth to
the bear. If it is for a child under the age of three,
embroider eyes as well. For an older child, use small
black beads.
Every effort has been made to have the knitting and
crochet instructions accurate and complete. We cannot be responsible for
