String Art Easter Egg Ornament
|
Lion Brand® Lion® Crochet Cotton
Pattern #: BK4K-0604006 |
These very simple ornaments-- a fun baby-sitting project for grade-schoolers -- are created by dipping cotton yarn in water-soluable school glue and forming it over a balloon. While the glue is wet, you can shake glitter over it. When it dries (takes about 3 hours) the balloon is then popped and pulled out of the ornament.
Teachers: There are 400 yards [400 m] in a ball of Lion Crochet Cotton, so if you have a class of 30, that is almost 13 yards of yarn per student -- enough to make about six ornaments -- so a single ball will be plenty for an entire class! |
|
SKILL LEVEL: Beginner
SIZE: One Size Depends on the balloons purchased. The ones shown range from 2 inches to 3 inches [5 cm to 7.5 cm].

String Art Easter Egg Ornament
Lion Brand® Lion® Crochet Cotton
GAUGE: Exact gauge is not important to this project
|
ORNAMENTPour the glue into a bowl. Cut a piece of waxed paper for the ornaments to rest on while drying.
Cut about 2 yards [2 m] of yarn. Dip it in the glue and wrap it around the balloon or drape in in swirls around it. If you use up all the yarn and you don't think there is enough yarn, you can always cut another piece of cotton and add more -- it is not important if there is an extra end or two because they will stick together! When you like the way the ornament looks, and before it dries, shake glitter over it.
When everything is dry, it's time to assemble it! First, you'll need to shake the extra glitter off. This can, of course, be saved for a later project. Pop the balloon and pull it out of the ornament.
Decorate your egg -- attach a tiny bouquet of flowers on top, add ribbons maybe even hang another tiny ornament inside of it -- follow your imagination!
