25 sts + 24 rows = 4" (10 cm) on size 8 needles with A in ribbing stitch When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

This piece is made in 1 x 1 ribbing (ribbing that is one stitch wide).

As a result, the finished item is very stretchy.

Knitting with Ruffles requires a special, yet simple, technique.

The loops are formed by inserting the needle into this tape-fabric yarn.

Change to (B), knit one row; purl one row, knit one row.

(this keeps the ruffles all on one side.) Bind off, weave in ends.

See the tutorial on knitting with Ruffles yarn for details on how to bind off and knit with this product

Fold the piece to make a sleeve with the ruffle at the top.

Thread the large-eyed, blunt needle with (A).

Starting at the end with the ruffle, sew the edges together, stopping about 2 inches [5 cm] from the end.

On the end of the piece where there are no ruffles, sew just the end, leaving the opening.

This is where the thumb goes.

k = knit
p = purl
st(s) = stitch(es)
