Totally Cool Crochet Beverage Cooler
Lion Brand® Lion® Cotton
GAUGE: 16 sc + 16 rows = 4 inches x 4 inches (10 cm x 10 cm) in sc. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

COOLER
With A, Chain 4 and slip st in first ch to form a ring. Work 8 single crochet in ring. Place marker for beginning of round.
Rnd 1: 2 sc in each sc around -- 16 sc.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around -- 32 sc.
Rnd 3: *1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around -- 48 sc. This is the base of the holder. It will ripple; this is deliberate; the bottom of soft drink bottles is rippled and the ripple gives the exact fit needed for best cooling.
Rnds 4-17: work even in sc.
Rnds 18-20: Change to B, work even in sc.
Rnds 21-23: Change to C, work even in sc, carrying 'the 'B' yarn up the wrong side (WS) of the work.
Rnds 24-26: Change to B, work even in sc. Cut, weave in ends.
Rnds 27-39: Change to A, work even in sc.
Rows 40-52: 7 sc in next 7 sc, ch 1, turn. (this is the beginning of the handle)
Rnds 53-65: Join, work even.
Rows 66-77: 7 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 78: 7 sc, fasten off, leaving an end of 12 inches (30 cm) for sewing.
FINISHING:
Position the loose end of the handle so it is opposite the beginning of the handle. Sew into place on the top edge of the holder. Fasten off, weave in ends.
USAGE
Place beverage bottle in cooler, drench in water, hang up out of the sun in a place where there is a little breeze. As the water evaporates, the beverage in the bottle will be cooled. If the cooler dries out, pour more water over it as needed.
