GAUGE:
14 dc = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

Note: On Row 1, you will work a dc in the 4th ch from your hook.
The first 3 chains count as the first dc.

Row 5: Ch 3, turn, dc in next 3 sts, *ch 2, sk next 2 sts, dc in next 4 sts; rep from * across.
Rows 6-9: Rep Row 2.

When you finish working Row 9 of the Second-Seventh Strips, you will join each to the previous strip by working a Joining Row.
SECOND STRIP

Rows 1-9: Work same as Rows 1-9 of First Strip.
At the end of Row 9, do not fasten off.
Note: The Joining Row (instructions below) will form a zigzag between two strips, joining them together.
You will be joining the 142 sts on the last row worked to the foundation row of the previous strip.
