12 dc = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.
Scarf is worked lengthwise.
If you would like the curls of Scarf to be symmetric, work Scarf in two halves as follows: For each half, ch 90, then work Rows 1-4 of Scarf.
Sew halves together so that each half curls away from the seam.
Don't be concerned if you work one st more or less - this project is very forgiving.
Row 1: Work 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook (beginning ch 3 does not count as a st) and in each ch across - 350 dc at the end of this row.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), turn, dc in first dc, 2 dc in each dc across.
Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), turn, dc in first dc, *dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * across to turning ch, dc in top of turning ch.
Row 4: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, hdc in first 2 dc, *2 hdc in next dc, hdc in next 2 dc; rep from * across to turning ch, 2 hdc in top of turning ch.
Weave in ends.
