Additional Materials
Circular knitting needle size 9 (5.5 mm), 40 in. (101.5 cm) long
GAUGE:
18 sts + 23 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL FOR THIS PROJECT. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
PATTERN STITCH Seed St (multiple of 2 sts) Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end.

Row 2: K the purl sts and p the knit sts.

Rep Row 2 for Seed st.

NOTES:
1.

Afghan is worked in one piece in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with a Seed st border along each side.

2.

A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts.

Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.

3.

Markers are placed between sts for the Seed st borders and sts for the center St st section.

Slip markers as you come to them.

4.

When you see 'as established' in the instructions, this means to continue in the current pattern st.

For example, to continue in Seed st, k the purl sts and p the knit sts.

5.

St st section of Afghan, between borders, is worked in intarsia colorwork, following written instructions for color changes.

Use a separate ball or bobbin for each area of color.

Pick up new color from under old color, twisting yarns on WS to prevent holes.

Diagram of Afghan is provided as an overview of what finished colorwork will look like, do not follow the diagram to work the Afghan.

6.

Due to color changes, the WS of Afghan will look less finished than the RS.
