13 stitches = about 6 in. (15 cm) When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.
1. Follow loom manual instructions on DOUBLE KNITTING for how to cast on, knit and bind off.
Use the following pieces: (2) 36-hole pieces and (2) U-shaped pieces.
Connect pieces to form a rectangle as follows: 36-hole piece > U-shaped piece > 36-hole piece > U-shaped piece.
Insert 13 large pegs into every other hole along each 36-hole piece - 26 working pegs placed.
Place a contrast color peg in one corner for slip knot.
Following loom manual instructions, with working yarn and scrap yarn, cast onto the 26 working pegs.
Knit off each peg until piece measures 55 in.
Bind off cast on edge of Scarf.
Remove scrap yarn.
Thread yarn ends into yarn needle provided with loom and weave yarn ends into the fabric of the Scarf.
