GAUGE:
10 sc + 11 rnds = 4 in. (10 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
sc2tog (sc decrease) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop.

Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop.

Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook - 1 st decreased.

NOTES:
1. Hat is worked in rnds, with RS always facing.

At the end of each rnd, join last st to first st with a sl st.

Do not turn at beg of each rnd.
2. If you prefer, Rnd 1 can be worked as a row and then joined into a rnd.

This is an easy way to beg if you're concerned about twisting the foundation ch.
3. To work Rnd 1 as a row, leave a yarn tail and ch 43 (47), sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across.

At the end of the row, join the last st to the first with a sl st.

Use the yarn tail to close up the small opening left by working a row.
