GAUGE:
14 sts + 20 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Rev St st (p on RS, k on WS) with 1 strand each of A and B held tog. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between needles and placing it onto the left needle.

Purl this new stitch through the back loop - 1 st increased.

NOTES:
1. Jacket is worked with 1 strand each of A and B held tog.
2. When you see 'work even' in the instructions, this means to continue on in the pattern st you have established without changing the st count by increasing, decreasing or binding off.
3. Back, Front and Sleeves are worked on a circular needle, back and forth in rows as if working on straight needles.

FINISHING

With 1 strand of A, sew side and Sleeve seams.

Front Edging
Note: For the front edging, you will be picking up sts around the entire front and neck edge of the Jacket.

The instructions below provide you with a specific number of sts to pick up, but for best results we suggest the following:
1. Using large clothespins or strands of contrasting yarn, place markers around front and neck edge of Jacket to divide this edge into smaller, equal size sections.
2. Pick up sts, evenly spaced, across the first 2 marked sections only and work in Garter st (k every row) for 4 rows.

Bind off.

Examine this edge to determine if the number of sts is appropriate.

If you picked up too many sts, the edging will appear to be 'wavy'.> If you picked up too few sts, the edge will appear to be too small for the Jacket front.
3. Unravel the Garter st rows you just worked.
4. If desired, repeat Step 2, picking up more or fewer sts within each section, then examining the edging to determine whether you're satisfied with the look of the edging.
5. When you have determined the number of sts to be picked up across each section, beg edging as instructed below.

With RS facing, and 1 strand each of A and B held tog, join yarn at lower edge of Right Front, pick up and knit 204 (210, 216, 222, 228) sts evenly spaced along Right Front edge, around neck and down Left Front edge.

Working back and forth in rows on circular needle, knit 4 rows.
Bind off.
Weave in ends.
