Additional Materials
Circular knitting needle size 5 (3.75 mm), 24 in. (60 cm) long
21 sts and 29 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Stockinette st (k on RS, p on WS). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

kfb (knit in front and back) Knit next st but do not remove it from left needle, then k through back of same st – 1 st increased.

ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog – 1 st decreased.

Entrelac knitting consists of Strips of Triangles and Squares.

Triangles and Squares are worked in short rows over a portion of the sts in a Strip, leaving the remaining sts unworked.

To work short rows, the pattern instructions will tell you to 'turn' before you reach the end of the row.

The Blanket begs and ends with a Strip of Triangles.

Between the beg and end Strips of Triangles, Strips of Squares are worked alternately with Strips of Squares and Triangles.

Each Strip is worked with a single color.

A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts.

Work back and forth in rows on circular needle, just as if working on straight needles.

An edging is crocheted around the outside edge of the completed Blanket.

148 sc are worked along one side of Blanket, but only 147 sc are worked along the opposite side.

This is done to create the correct number of sts for Rnd 2.

Edging is meant to be a bit tighter than knit edges of Blanket - this stabilizes the edges.

Rnd 1: With RS facing and crochet hook, join A with a sl st in any st along outside edge, work 124 sc evenly spaced across both short edges, 148 sc evenly spaced across one long edge, 147 sc evenly spaced across other long edge, and 3 sc in each corner; join with sl st in first sc - 555 sc at the end of this rnd.

Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), (dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in same st as join, ch 1, sk next 4 sc, * (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next sc, ch 1, sk next 4 sc; rep from * around; join with sl st in first dc.

Fasten off.

Weave in ends.

beg = begin(s)(ning)
ch(s) = chain(s)
dc = double crochet
k = knit
p = purl
p2tog = purl 2 together
rem = remain(s)(ing)
rep = repeat(s)(ing)
rnd(s) = round(s)
RS = right side
sc = single crochet
sk = skip
sl st = slip stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)
WS = wrong side
