7 hdc = 4 in. (10 cm); One square = 14 x 14 in. (35.5 x 35. 5 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

Afghan is made from 9 Squares; 5 of Square 1 and 4 of Square 2.

The Squares are sewn together following the Diagram.

Yarn color is changed on every other row.

Instructions are given to fasten off the old color when changing yarn color.

If you prefer, carry unused color along side edge of work.

Then, when sewing Squares together, be sure to include the side with the carried yarn strands in a seam.
