GAUGE:
16 sts + 22 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with larger needles and 1 strand of A and 2 strands of B held tog. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Making a Gauge Swatch
Exact gauges is not imporant to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between needles and placing it onto the left needle.

Knit this new stitch through the back loop - 1 st increased.

ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog - 1 st decreased.

PATTERN STITCH K1, p1 Rib (worked over a multiple of 2 sts + 1 additional st) Row 1 (RS): K1, *p1, k1; rep from * to end of row.

Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.

Rep Row 2 for K1, p1 Rib.

NOTES:
1.

Cardi is worked in 6 pieces: Back, 2 Fronts, 2 Sleeves and Collar.

Front borders are worked in one piece with each Front.

2.

The Collar is worked separately, then shaped by working a row of crochet across one long edge, drawing in the length slightly along the neck edge.

3.

Instructions are provided for crocheted buttons.

If you prefer to purchase buttons, you will need 6 buttons, 3/4 in.

(19 mm) diameter and 1 button, 1/2 in.

(13mm) diameter.

4.

When you see 'work even' in the instructions, this means to continue in the pattern st you have established without changing the st count by increasing, decreasing, or binding off.
