The foundation row is an easy way to begin a piece that will be worked in the round because you do not have to worry about twisting the chain when you join the ends.

INSTRUCTIONS

COWL With A, chain 37.

Foundation Row: Work a single crochet in the 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across.

At the end of row, first make sure the row is not twisted, then slip stitch into the first stitch to make a ring.

From this point on, you will be working in the round.

Round 1: Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet), turn, work a double crochet in each stitch around.

At the end of the round, slip stitch into the top of the beginning chain to join.

Round 2: Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch), turn, work a single crochet in each stitch around.

At the end of the round, slip stitch into the first stitch to join.

Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until nearly all of A yarn has been used.

Fasten off.

FINISHING Edging Join B with a slip stitch anywhere along the last round.

Round 1: Chain 1 (does NOT count as a stitch), single crochet in each stitch around.

At the end of the round, slip stitch into the first stitch to join.

Round 2: Chain 1, do NOT turn, single crochet in each stitch around.

At the end of the round, slip stitch into the first stitch to join.

Fasten off.

Join B with a slip stitch anywhere along the first round of the Cowl and repeat Rounds 1 and 2 of edging.

Weave in ends.
